Carmen

Carmen is an opera of four works by French composer Georges Bizet. The libretto was written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy based on a novel of the same title by Prosper Mérimée. Opera was first held at Opera-Comique in Paris on March 3, 1875 and was not well received, mainly because it violated the controversial manners and characters, which shocked and offended the audience. Carmen has since become one of the most popular and often performed operas.
